we are…the BASEBALL POSSE!

Once upon a Christmas dreary, Walt Baranger and Jay Berman grew so weary of college bowl games that they drove 150 miles to catch a winter–league baseball game in Tijuana…and the Baseball Posse was born.

Since then, we’ve caught games across North America, the Caribbean, Asia, even Europe. And we’re not done. Between us, we probably have enough frequent-flier miles to circumnavigate the globe about 30 times…and counting.

Not all our travel is related to baseball. For some of us, the game is just another excuse to see more of this world, and meet more of the people in it. Baseball, like music, is a universal language.

If nothing else, it’s a good excuse to check out Cancun and Sydney and Vancouver and Paris. Yep, they’ve got teams there, too.

Jay is our baseball maven and DH, Designated Historian. Walt is our navigator. I keep the minutes of our mad ventures here on this site. Irene Berman is our DSP — Designated Sane Person (and yes, we definitely need one of those!).

In recent years, we’ve welcomed some new members — Walt’s son, Geoff, as well as fellow newspaper slaves and baseball devotees Chris Moran and Jenny Vigil. With the 2009 Serie del Caribe/Caribbean World Series coming to Baja California, we expect our numbers to grow bigtime!

So welcome to our Internet corral. Feel free to look around, or make use of this site to plan and play out some adventures of your own. See you on the road, preferably down behind the home team dugout!
