Four presidents, many gray hairs and several score thousand frequent–flier miles later, the Baseball Posse returns to the ballyard in Tijuana that gave it birth.
We saw a lot — an infield overpopulated with constumed mascots, vendors who look more like underaged striking dockworkers, a second–hand scoreboard, sultry, semi–dressed cheerleaders and a serious overdose of piped music of every sort.

Greg has his first full-on encounter with the Mardi Gras Indians, a black New Orleans tradition that dates back to the 1880s. When you hear these guys call themselves “the soul of Mardi Gras,” believe them!
(NOTE: Six months after these images were shot, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. This neighborhood, officially called Center City but known to most simply as Uptown, was badly flooded. Some of the people you see here may be among the roughly 1,700 residents who perished. Others have been scattered across the country and may never return.
Those who remain are fighting to keep this tradition alive.)

Take Paradise. Multiply by four islands and seven days. Add water. Just for yucks, throw in some lagoons made for postcards, waterfalls taller than skyscrapers and an active volcano.
The result is a weeklong Christmas cruise aboard the NCL Pride of Aloha. You may go for days without seeing a billboard or a traffic jam.
